HAPPY FEB. 21 BIRTHDAY TO…MARTI ROBERTS…TRACI REYNOLDS…BRIAN HOLDEN…SUZANNE COLEMAN!!!

AQUA IDOL FINALE…..Feb. 19th was the Grand Finale of Aqua Idol for the Waterfront Playhouse! Eleven weeks ago 15 marvelous vocalists started competition and the final three were Perry Arnold, Ruben Navarro and Daniel Wiggins. Early in the evening the darling Daniel Wiggins was announced as being in Third Place! After that, Perry and Ruben went head to head all evening performing three songs each. Once again, they gave their all, singing their great big hearts out for the Waterfront! Emcee Randy Thompson was at his most hilarious! Joining Tony and myself as guest judge was my other half, Bob Frechette, who did a super job! There was a HUGE crowd …standing room only…who seemed to love every moment. After Ruben and Perry finished their songs, the money they earned was collected and taken to be counted. During this interlude, former contestants, Sherry Sweet-Tewell and Matt Hulsey, and Valerie Carr and some of our former contestants had guest spots and were as entertaining as ever! And guess what, even I joined Randy Thompson on the stage for a song after Neal Ruchman announced that he would donate $500 to the Waterfront Playhouse if I got up there to sing! Well….Put your money where your mouth is Neal!!!!! Anyway, it was a hoot, and thanks to Laura Bohdon who filmed the whole thing with her camera! Just before 8 pm, the final Two came back to the stage, and Randy announced the results! On behalf of the Waterfront Playhouse Staff and Board, I congratulate Runner Up, PERRY ARNOLD and Aqua Idol Winner, RUBEN NAVARRO! Our prize package for the Top Three Winners totaled nearly $11,000 this year. Read more about the donors to the prize package and about Aqua Idol in my addendum! Now I ask you….What are we all going to do on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8 pm? It really was a great time for everyone! I thank you all for coming…I am most appreciative to everyone who contributed to our fab Prize Package, and I especially want to thank, once again, our brilliant contestants….RUBEN NAVARRO, PERRY ARNOLD, DANIEL WIGGINS, HEATHER-MAE POTTER, MATT HULSEY, JEFF KUCIN, QUINCY PERKINS, VALERIE CARR, KAREN LEONARD, SOPHIE DEVOOGHT, EMMILY SUE SMITH, BEN TEAGUE, SHERRY SWEET-TEWELL, QUEEN KATHLEEN, and ALEX OCKINCZYCK! MINI REVIEW ON SEMINAR….Bob and I were recently invited to a Box Lunch Social sponsored by the KW Council of the Arts. It was at Kelly’s Caribbean. After lunch we were treated to seeing two scenes from the FRINGE Theater’s upcoming dramady, SEMINAR, which will be presented upstairs at Kelly’s for only 9 performances. (Read more on this in the Feb. 22 section below.) In only seeing those two scenes I will tell you that this play should definitely be a big hit, and rightly so. The actors are all first rate….Mike Mulligan, as you would expect, is OUTSTANDING! He is the consummate actor and this is a perfect vehicle for him to shine! He is the jaded novelist who conducts a private writing class for four young aspiring writers. They are, our own Quincy Perkins, plus Chicago actors, Ed Porter and Bex Marsh, and Miami actor, Hannah Citrin. Each one is excellent….and the scenes we saw really whetted my appetite to see the entire play! What we saw just in that brief time, was sharp, funny, smart, and real! The director is Dennis Zacek of Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theatre Fame. You will definitely have to make SEMINAR a MUST see on your list of special things to attend!!!!

THANKFUL ON THURSDAY…As you probably know, we lost one of Key West’s shining stars on Feb. 18. I am grateful to God that I knew Patrick JUNIOR Winters….He was such a sweetheart….a real day-brightener. I trust that he rests in the Lord’s loving arms. My heart will always miss him and the joy he brought to my life! I am indeed richer for having known him!

With the help of a wonderful donor & the Florida Hearing Loop Systems, our theater goers who are hearing impaired can come to the theater and hear every word onstage!!!! The entire stage picks up sound & transmits it wirelessly to T-Coil enabled hearing aids as well as cochlear implant users. The system also came with loaner portable receivers and headsets for hearing impaired individuals who do not have aids or T-Coil equipped hearing aids. The quality of the system has been tested and the signal is extraordinary!
