JUNETEENTH AFRICAN AMERICAN HERITAGE FESTIVAL…
This Event will be observed at Nelson English Park at the corner of Catherine & Thomas Sts. from 3 PM until 9:00 PM. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the End of slavery…a reminder of the triumph of the human spirit over man’s inhumanity to man! This will be a day filled with food, games, gospel music, prizes, educational info, counseling and Free HIV testing. It is FREE and ALL are invited to attend. Call 296-6196 for more details.

My cousin, Tom Rybicki and his wife, Denise, visiting from Ohio, joined us for dinner at NINE ONE FIVE!!! Had a delish meal….and just want you all to know…..This super restaurant, at 915 Duval St., is offering a 25% discount on all food and drink, from 6 to 8:00 PM every day of the week, through the end of the summer, and into September! It was wonderful seeing Tom and Denise again…a really terrific couple and so much fun to be with. It was also great fun to see Anne Shaver, Susanne Woods and company…who were celebrating Anne’s birthday week! After dinner, went over to The KEYS, and enjoyed Bobby Nesbitt, as we always do…It was great running into Taylor & Ginny Doebler, who are visiting Key West for five days! Welcome back!!! From The KEYS, we walked across the street to LaTeDa and had one of Sassy’s fab Cosmos while listening to the Two Michaels entertain… Michael McCabe and Michael Thomas! Just another really fun evening in Key West!!!

Don Pinder’s photos appeared for years in the Citizen and other publications. He recorded images of KW and Stock Island during the latter half of the 20th century. You will see amazing scenes and be taken back to a time when Key West wasn’t quite so grown up as it is now!

DONNA ROLLS’ OPERAFEST AT WATERFRONT PLAYHOUSE…

Cannot thank Donna Roll enough for once again bringing some of the country’s best singers to Key West, to Wow us once again! We love you, Donna, and are eternally grateful for all you do on behalf of these talented singers, and for all of us who live in Key West. A special mention of two of Key West’s very own, Ralph Garcia Jr. and Brad Richards, who were chosen to perform with this prestigious ensemble of singers. Both of these young men, performed at KW High School and then with the Keys Chorale.

IN MEMORIAM…
Today, we remember one of Key West’s most fabulous and talented individuals….Franko Richmond, whose birthday is today! I am so thankful that Bob and I had a chance to really know Franko during his marvelous piano classes at the College! We knew him as an entertainer in town for a long time, but it wasn’t until we took his Classes, that we actually fell in love with him! It was in his classes, that he opened up his heart and his life to everyone who was blessed to be there. We heard stories of his childhood, his amazing family, the people he met along his journey, his wife, Gail, and, even his illness. He brought us all into his family and we all cared so much about him. He will always live on in our heart and minds….We will never forget him and we will keep his memory alive!

The People’s Theater of KW is offering a 6 week workshop on improv comedy beginning on Sunday, 6/27 from 3 to 5:00 PM at 909 Flagler Ave., formerly the Unity Church. The workshop will culminate in a chance to audition to be part of the IMPROVABLES Comedy Troupe. Cost is $75, payable the first day of class. Call 294-6813 for more info.
