THE 2012 FRECHETTE GAZETTE

STILL DECKING THOSE HALLS!!!!

We started decorating the house for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving, and guess what….we are still at it! I must say, that we absolutely have the most beautiful Christmas trees ever! Our cat, Purr-Lee, has chosen laying by the 11 ft. Victorian tree in the LR as her favorite spot to be…..very adorable! Our Little Red riding Hood Tree is in the FR, and our antique feather tree is in the DR. I have been collecting Santas, and antique Christmas and it was great fun to unpack the seemingly zillions of boxes that Bob brings down from the attic and display them throughout the house. The only thing is….it seems like we just put everything away from last year. Yikes!

THESE ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES

We are grateful to be living in our two favorite places, Key West, FL and Chippewa Lake, O. Our homes are vintage, kind of like us….and we love them both. This year we spent 3 months at dear Rose Cottage at the Lake and enjoyed every second. It is like a miniature version of our KW home…filled with antiques, nostalgia, and warm and wonderful memories in every nook and cranny. We have great friends and family members who decorate our lives with laughter and joy. Bob plays golf in Ohio….I have a super tennis group…and I love tending my cottage garden, abounding with roses and hydrangeas. This year, my brother, Ed Stevens & wife Amy, bought my Mom & Dad’s place, a stone’s throw from ours, and it has been terrific having them nearby all summer long. An added bonus is that Ed’s grown children, Sally, Jennifer, Ed Jr. and their families enjoy Chippewa and we will keep on making Family Memories there. And young Brady loves the new pontoon boat that his parents bought!

LIFE IN KEY WEST, FLORIDA

We have lived in KW for 15 years now and living here has proven to be even more wonderful than visiting as a tourist. It is the most caring and giving place in the universe! We marvel at the Arts in a town only 2 x 4 miles…the number of super restaurants….and the amazingly talented people living here. We are blessed with actors, singers, authors, dancers, entertainers, musicians galore…who came to this quirky magical place, fell in love with it and stayed! The weather is divine…..plus, it is charming, colorful, interesting, funny and FUN! Bob and I are still on the Board of the esteemed Waterfront Playhouse, voted the best professional theater by Florida Magazine 3 yrs. Running. Bob is also treasurer for our Association in the Truman Annex. He continues to sell real estate and fish whenever possible. There aren’t enough hours to partake of all that we enjoy doing. In 2013 I need to try to fit in more tennis… Scrabble games….to read those zillions of books lining my shelves. NANCY STEVENS

Last year about this time, we visited Nancy to say goodbye. She was like a sister to me and we were very close. Once married to my brother Ed, our relationship continued after theirs’ stopped. In Aug. of 2011 she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She passed away on March 14 and our hearts ache with missing her, especially at Christmas. Nancy was one of the people in my life who really made Christmas special for me. She loved giving more than receiving. She would put Martha Stewart to shame with her decorating, cooking and baking. As I have decked our home this holiday season, I have unwrapped countless precious decorations, ornaments, beautifully hand-made objects, etc. that Nancy gifted me with through the years…each one more treasured now than before. The feather tree I talked about earlier, is decorated mostly with antique ornaments from Nancy. Needless to say I have shed many a tear as I remember each one and each special occasion they were given to me.

IN MEMORIAM

Along with Nancy, this has been a year of great loss of loved ones. We will never forget friends, Larry Harvey, Emily Boyd Lowe, Lois Kline, Will Stephens, Mimi Dixon, Susan Mesker, Dick Reynolds, Des Paden, Maria Cutler, Nat Blatchford, Steve Turco, Lonnie Jacobson…cousins, Russ Domski and Mike Rybicki…and we mourn the loss of Bob’s brother’s grandson, Shaun Frechette. Of course we always keep the memory of my parents, brother Fred, and beloved relatives & friends close in our hearts and minds.

HITHER AND YON!!!

We left KW for Ohio in late May with a stop on the way to visit friends Harrell Barry in Nashville… then on to Illinois for granddaughter, Lexy’s 8th grade graduation…great spending time with daughter Melissa and Rob & Lexy. We arrivived in Ohio on June 1. In late June we headed for Gettysburg, PA, and along the way, visited friends in Newport & Harrisburg, PA. In Gettysburg, we went to see great friend, Bruce Moore’s fabulous Irving Berlin show there. It was marvelous to see him in great voice and back on the stage performing…and also special to visit with the entire Moore clan! We enjoyed this historic town and it was a real history trip to tour the battlefields there…very moving. Our major vacation was our yearly OD on Broadway Trip in Aug. We managed to squeeze in 7 shows in 5 days and it was wonderful! We loved Nesies, Closer Than Ever, Once, Clybourne Park, Peter & the Starcatcher and Warhorse….plus an added bonus was that we got to see our own Key West contemporary Dance Co. perform onstage in NYC…and they were fabulous! In Sept. we invited Bob’s siblings, Mary, Susan, Mark & Rosemary & their spouses to Chippewa for a family reunion. We all enjoyed a great time reminiscing, laughing and sharing. We also made a treasured visit to see friends Diane & Merle Hohman at their Lakeside, O home. Please keep Merle in your prayers as he is very ill and we love him….and Diane very much.

CHRISTMASTIME 2012

We will remain in KW for Christmas again this year. We are excited that our son Rob and granddaughter, Lexy will be visiting us Dec.27 to Jan.1. We are hoping to share some special memories with them here. We also look forward to a happy & healthy 2013, and in sharing more good times with wonderful people like you!

Love to you and Remember…..Christmas is not a time or a season…but a state of mind. To cherish peace and good will…to be plenteous in mercy…is to have the real spirit of this special season! God bless us….Everyone!!!!!
