Last night, Jan. 25th, a good crowd enjoyed listening to the singing of Bill Heller, Laurie Thibauld, Cynthia Mulcahey, Nina Crooks, Sam Trophia, Tim Dahms, Rick Dery, competing for big prizes!!! It was a terrific night, and those in the audience enjoyed every moment! Next week, eliminations will be made. Special guest star, Terri White, thrilled the crowd tonight…as did emcee, Randy Thompson and former Aqua Idol winner, Chris Tanner. Hoping you will arrange your schedules so you can attend this really fun and very entertaining evening in Key West….all for a good cause….The Trophia Butterfly Foundation!!! 6:30 PM every Tuesday night!

TAKE THE ONLINE POLL ABOUT WIDENING THE CHANNEL….

The online poll by the Key West Citizen is on spending the 5 to 6 million dollars on a feasibility study for widening the channel so Mega-Huge Ships could come into KW. I urge you to take this poll, and let our Commissioners know how you feel. Personally, I think the Commission should put an end to this, and I hope you do too! They are watching to see how we all vote, and your vote is very important. Please send this to all your friends. The poll is located on the bottom of Tuesday’s paper ( and perhaps today’s, too). The question to answer is: How do you feel about the Key West proposal to conduct at $5 million feasibility study on widening its main shipping channel? Your choices are:

A—It’s a good idea. We have to keep up with changes in the cruise ship industry.

B—I’m undecided. I want to know more about the benefits and detriments of widening the channel.

C—It’s a waste of money. The city already has too much cruise ship traffic and it’s driving off upscale tourists.

D—I want to know who’s behind this effort. The residents don’t seem to want it, but somebody’s applying the pressure.

FABULOUS SHOW AT THE CUSTOM HOUSE….

I had the great pleasure of taking time to enjoy the new and wonderful exhibits at the Custom House! This majestic building houses some amazing treasures, and I ask that you explore and enjoy all of them. In addition to the Seward Johnson, Hemingway, The Maine, and Mario Sanchez exhibits, the new one dedicated to Flagler and the Railroad, is quite spectacular! I got lost in the fascination of it all. It is done beautifully….filled with photos, clothing, uniforms, old wonderful film footage from that bygone time, artifacts, memorabilia… when Key West welcomed the Railroad for the first time on Jan. 22, 1912. This exhibit is called “Speedway to Sunshine” and it was written and raved about in Sunday’s Miami Herald. Awhile back, I remember asking the Grande Dame, Wilhelmina Harvey about riding the train when she was a young girl, and she spoke glowingly of getting all dressed up to take the train to Miami. Her eyes sparkled when she related her memory of it. This exhibit makes you feel as if you are a part of that amazing era. Congratulations to Claudia Pennington and her Board and all involved in creating this magnificent display! I urge everyone to visit the Custom House. And one more thing…the Gift Shop is one of the best ever!
