TONIGHT AT WATERFRONT PLAYHOUSE!!!
A fabulous show took place tonight….It was BROADWAY CARES…EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS…starring dreamboat, KEVIN SPIRTAS and the gorgeous, FELICIA FINLEY! Together they have an amazing repertoire of wonderful Broadway, cinema and TV credentials…and they never failed to delight! Those there loved every single moment! Key West entertainers, Vicki Roush, Carmen Rodriguez, Joy Hawkins and Danny Weathers, just raved about the show, and I do not understand why it was not sold out? In fact, there were two shows scheduled, at 6 and at 8 PM, and the 6:00 show was canceled due to lack of ticket sales! We sat with Eric Cole, Ed Dozier, and Michael Citro…and we all loved the show! The song choices were some of our very favorites. Kevin sang songs from The Boy From Oz, of which he was Hugh Jackman’s understudy…he was marvelous, and brought down the house with Once Before I Go…to say nothing of his fabulous rendition of This is the Moment! At only $30 a ticket, it was the best buy in town, and for a great cause….and yet where were the people? I know there were other things going on it town, but this was exceptional. I just want to thank Randy Detrick and Scott Hall for all their efforts to bring these two wonderful entertainers to Key West to thrill us all as they did!!!!
AFTERWARD AT THE KEYS…
Just want to tell you that, a lot of the crowd from the show at the Waterfront went to The KEYS Piano Bar after the show…..Lenore Troia was at the piano and there was a fantastic crowd…..great fun…lots of super guest singers, and the amazing Traci Reynolds entertained too! It was a wonderful evening of musical entertainment for sure!
GREAT TO SEE….
…good friends, Billy Cartledge, Jim Hall, and Barry Cook, who were all briefly in town! What fun it was to spend some real quality time with each of them!
THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS….
And I must mention how special it was to meet visitor to Key West, Derrick Cobey and his partner, at Square One Restaurant the other evening! We got into a delightful conversation with him and found out that Derrick will be appearing in “The Scottsboro Boy”…a musical by Kander and Ebb, to open in preview at the Lyceum Theatre in NYC on Oct. 7 with the official opening on Oct. 31!!! Prior to this it will be presented at The Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis from 7/31 to 9/25. This is a dark musical based on the false accusations of white women accusing 9 black men of attacking them. This show was seen off-Broadway and received rave reviews and accolades. Susan Stroman will direct and choreograph. Later on, we all went to The KEYS Piano Bar and got to hear Derrick sing! what a treat! We can say “We knew him when!”
Happy June 12th Anniversary to those Buzzz Babes, PAMELA CHILDS and RHONDA FLORENCE!!!!! Hope you are looking them up at www.conchtv.com!
