Key West Gala Raises $138,000!
Dear Lynda,

What an extraordinary night!

The Equality Florida 2011 Key West Gala was our best ever with close to 400 enthusiastic equality supporters in attendance.

Our capacity crowd included political, community, business and faith leaders, The very strong presence of straight allies showed that in Key West we truly are One Human Family.

By the end of the night we had shattered our previous fundraising record for Key West raising an all time high $138,000! It’s a huge accomplishment and a testament to the strength of our Key West team and the spirit of this town.

The entire evening came together beautifully. Special thanks to the Gardens Hotel for a gorgeous setting and a magical night. Thanks also to Theresa Wright and her catering team who laid out a gorgeous buffet and kept the food coming all night long.

This year’s gala program was top notch. Monroe County Mayor Heather Carruthers welcomed our guests and introduced Nadine Smith who gave a stirring state-of-the state highlighting the amazing victories of the last year and the challenges and opportunities ahead. Voice for Equality Award Winner, Rudy Molinet, gave an eloquent acceptance speech as we honored him for his inspirational writing, his fearless advocacy, and his leadership in so many organizations. Although Judge Audlin was not able to join us, he was thrilled to be honored and looks forward to seeing us all at Equality Florida’s next Key West event. Bonnie Piceu closed the program with a rousing invitation to our guests to join Equality Florida that helped put us over the top on our record-breaking night.

Special thanks also to Rudy Molinet and Harry Hoehn for hosting our beautiful sponsors reception in their stunning home. The hors d’oeuvres were exquisite and it was so special to have the Key West High GSA and the Fantasy Fest royal court there to help.

Because of the great success of our Key West Gala, we will have the funding for full-time staff in Tallahassee lobbying for equality and blocking attacks on our community during the ongoing legislative session.

We will have the tools to communicate and mobilize pro-equality voters to deliver the margin of victory for our champions. And we will have the resources for our Gay-Straight Alliance Network to train student leaders across the state.

Thank you all for being a part of Equality Florida. We are winning, because of you.

Stratton Pollitzer
Deputy Director
