From 9 AM to 4:00 PM, the Florida Keys National Maritime Sanctuary Advisory Council, will host a meeting for all concerned about the Oil Spill. KEY WEST MODERN DANCE CLASS…June 15-19….
..will be held at The CoffeeMill Dance Studio, 916 Pohalski St., at 10:00 AM this morning! This is a dance class dedicated entirely to modern dance and the technique of Martha Graham and Jose Limon. Films, lectures and encounter with the artists, Maurizo Nardi, principal dancer with Martha Graham Dance Co., and Daniel Fetecua Soto, lead dancer with Jose Limon Dance Co. MEETING ON CEMETERY GATE RE-OPENING….
…at the 6 PM meeting scheduled for today, Commissioner Jimmy Weekley will be submitting a resolution to open the Francis St. gates that until recently, have been open to the public for 163 years. Please e-mail your elected officials and try to attend the meeting, urging them to pass the resolution. I received a passionate letter from Ben Harrison, and I must say his arguments for keeping those gates opened with supervision, are valid! You can e-mail your district commissioner by putting the first letter of their first name followed by their last name….for example, jweekley@keywestcity.com. (name@keywestcity.com). Let us all exercise some common sense here.

I can just feel the excitement in the air, can’t you? Tuesdays at 6:30…the best place to be is Aqua Nightclub for AQUA IDOL WATERFRONT PLAYHOUSE! Sadly one of our fabulous contestants will be eliminated tonight, and when you have wonderful contestants like, Gayla Morgan, Bill Heller, Traci Reynolds, Valerie Carr, Michael McCabe, Amy Pesola, James Warren, Bobby Lundy, and Yoa Hardardottir…you know how hard it will be to lose a single one of them! Dancers Maurizio Nardi and Daniel Soto, who are teaching class at the CoffeeMill Dance Studio, will present a Modern Dance Film Festival, about Martha Graham and Jose Limon. This will take place on Wed. and Thurs. at 7 :30 PM. Both dancers will be onhand to answer questions, talk about the films and their experiences with these two marvelous companies. Tix are $10 for non members and only $6 for members of the Tropic….at the door.
Fri., 6/18….Hometown PAC meet the candidate night from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at the KW Tropical Forest & Botanic Garden….Candidates will give a 3 minute presentation….Free…..Food and drink will be available.
Fri., 6/18…Talkback with dancers, Nardi and Soto (above) at the Studios of Key West, at 3 PM in the White Street Armory, 600 White St. Free of charge. All invited to attend. This is a rare opportunity to meet and converse with dancers of this caliber.

6/18 to 6/20….Motorcycle Challenge HOKA HEY (means Let’s Get going!) Free City wide “Partay” from noon Fri. to Noon, Sunday. On Sun. over 1000 elite cycle riders will come together for a 7,800 milie run from KW to the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska. It is quite an adventure….There will be a $500,000 award in Alaskan Gold for the one who finishes first. Riders from around the globe, are expected to participate…this will be filmed for a reality TV series covering the Run from Key West to Homer Alaska. Multiple charities will benefit from this event.
