MAY 17 to JUNE 6 2021… IN KEY WEST WITH LYNDA….

DEAR READERS…What a time this has been!  This last year has been like being on a roller coaster ride with many ups and lots of downs!  At this point I am feeling like we are on an upswing!  It is also that time of year when we begin planning our trip back to dear old Rose Cottage at Chippewa Lake, Ohio.  It is always a bittersweet time….but thankfully, we love our life in Ohio…. and we always know we will be returning back to glorious Key West again!!!!  Having had the COVID vaccines, we are MUCH more at ease to travel and mingle with people… and the CDC new ruling on Masks and Distancing for Vaccinated folk is certainly a big part of the upswing!!!!! 

WHAT ABOUT BOB???…After I last wrote about Bob’s successful hernia surgery on April 7….things started to go south.  On April 26, Bob contracted a nasty infection and had to undergo corrective surgery, and then check into the hospital.  For the next six days he remained in the Hospital where he was given a powerful antibiotic drip.  Thankfully I was able to visit him every day and dine with him nightly.  He was released from the hospital on May 1, as an outpatient where he went religiously to receive his 3 hour drip every day.  During this time, our daughter Melissa flew in from Chicago and it was wonderful to be together during this troubling time.  She was a great support and comfort to us both.  That day also, Bob had his Doctor’s appointment at 4 pm, and I was stressing about what the outcome would be.  When Bob opened the door, he said, “Get out the champagne…. I got my catheter out and it is time to celebrate that I am finally healing!”  What a relief!  It’s like a 2,000 pound weight was lifted from our shoulders.  I want to thank everyone out there who prayed, sent cards, messages, emails, texts, called him… who sent flowers, gift-baskets…. and who gave us so much caring, kind support.  We love you all!!!!  Thank you, thank you, thank YOU!!  Though not totally out of the woods, things are looking UP!!!

WELCOME TO ….My cousin Tom Rybicki and his wife, Denise are in town on their annual Dive Trip.  We welcome them back and look forward to spending a bit of time with them while they are here!  They dive during the day and then go to dives at night!  That’s just the Key West Way! Welcome, Cuz!

UPDATE ON DANNY WEATHERS….  Former Waterfront Playhouse Artistic Director,  and dear, dear friend, Danny Weathers,  has been fighting a series of health issues, and I KNOW he would love to hear from you.  He has been in the hospital for a very long time, and though  there is improvement, it’s just not happening fast enough to suit me!!!!  I am requesting that you take some time to send Danny a card or/and a message of support.  Send these cards to him at his home address at: 2114 S. via Mazatlan, Palm Springs, CA 92264.  You can email him at AccessDanny@gmail.com or text him if you have his number.  Please, no phone calls at this point…. and no flowers or gifts are acceptable at the hospital.  Healing prayers are needed.  We ALL love Danny…. and wish him well!  Let us get behind Danny during this tough time.  Big thanks!!!!

TO MASK OR NOT TO MASK???  …..  This is no longer a question for those who HAVE BEEN VACCINATED!!!  We are thrilled that the CDC has announced that fully vaccinated individuals can safely attend events outdoors and indoors without having to wear a mask!!  (Of course, sensibility rules… and businesses do have the right to request masks and distancing.)  If you have been on the fence about getting the vax, this is just another great reason to get vaccinated!  It has been proven that the possibility of contracting the virus or giving it to others is just about nil!  Those who are NOT vaccinated must still don the mask wherever they go indoors or out.  So…. I continue to urge all who have not gotten vaxxed to please DO!  The sooner everyone gets vaccinated the sooner we can ALL meet without masks and lead  a life of relative normalcy again.   The confusing thing is not knowing WHO is NOT vaccinated.  I hope those who are not will continue to be on the honor system and WEAR YOUR MASKS.   You will continue to be at risk until you get the big  “V”……V for Vaccination Victory!!!!   Florida residents may visit www.myvaccine.fl.gov to register and schedule their own appointment for the vaccine.  Patients will see a list of state supported sites from which to choose appointments.  If no appt. is available nearby, patients will be notified as a new locale opens.  Many of our local Pharmacies are giving the FREE Vaccine even as a walk-in. WRIST BRACELETS…..Queen Kate Miano has ordered LOTS of  Chartreuse Wrist Bracelets to commemorate that you have been vaccinated.  I wear one, as does Bob, and people have asked me how they can obtain one.  Just stop in The Gardens Hotel Office and request one and Voila!  It will be one way to tell if someone is Vaxxed…..The Gardens is at 526 Angela St.  THANKS QUEEN KATIE!!!!

UPDATE ON CRUISE SHIPS…..FOR ALL THOSE INTERESTED…..
PLEASE DON’T GIVE UP THE SHIP!!!!!   Along with getting Vaccinated, I am also passionate about Cleaner, Safer, Smaller Ships!!!!! Right now our options seem to be dwindling.  I am hoping and praying that the Bill will be tossed by Gov. Ron DeSantis…. but he is so gung ho for cruise ships to sail in Florida that I somehow can’t believe that he will be in our favor, no matter how many environmentalists testify on the great damage they do to our Reefs, our air, our waters, etc.  Our wonderful team of Cavaliers who have worked tirelessly on behalf of Cleaner, Safer, Smaller, more manageable Ships in Key West…. continue to fight for all the voters.  But it looks like those who don’t give a hoot and a holler about what the People in Key West want and voted for….. who are  trying to take away Home Rule and are perpetrating the BIG LIE ….these deep-pocketed people who are crazed that they won’t be gaining enough dollars from smaller, safer, cleaner ships seem to be winning the fight.  Mega dollars have been donated to Gov. De Santis, and that is what he seems to care about above all else.  Let us pray that he DOES THE RIGHT THING!!!!!

SO NOW WHAT HAPPENS?   
After hundreds of years of Home Rule at our KW Port, will it prevail?   We are praying that  DeSantis will be able to evaluate fact from fiction…. that he will see  what the people of Key West want and voted for…. and see there are but a few people who stand to gain from reversing the vote.   The bad thing is…. HE stands to gain from big $$$ being donated to bribe him.   I urge YOU to send letters to Governor DeSantis.  Tell him the truth… the REAL facts….Send these letters to him at: Gov. MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT ON AQUA IDOL….  It has been very frustrating having had to cancel our last two Idol performances way back in March 2020.  However I have some great news!!!!  PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!!  WE WILL RESUME THE LAST TWO AQUA IDOLS FOR THE WATERFRONT PLAYHOUSE ON NOVEMBER 10 AND 17….. The new day is Monday, and the time will be 6 pm to 8 pm!  On Nov. 10, the Final 7 will each sing two songs… That night the 7 will be narrowed down to The Final Four!!!   Those Four Finalists will compete Head-to-Head on November 17….. again singing two songs….There will also be some Guest performers.  The Final Magnificent 7 are….. PAT MOORE, MOTHER OF BRUCE….. On May 8, Pat Moore celebrated her 90th birthday.  On Friday, May 16, she needed to go to the ER.  She had an MRI and a CT Scan which showed a stroke…. on Saturday, she had surgery on blockage to an artery to her brain. Bruce and family are deeply concerned and rightly so.  They are requesting that you please keep Pat in your thoughts and prayers.   You can send cards to Patricia Moore at 35 W.
