MONDAY, AUGUST 30TH, 2010, in KEY WEST, WITH LYNDA!!!
NEW YORK ROCKS!!!
Bob and I are back in Ohio after 5 wonderful days in New York City! In those 5 days, we saw 6 Broadway Shows and 1 Off Broadway Show! We saw Promises Promises (Kristin Chenoweth, Sean Hayes and Katie Finneran (Tony Winner!) were sensational as were the Burt Bacharach Songs and super dancing, too!)…Come Fly Away….Twyla Tharpe Dance Tribute to Sinatra… dancing that is so amazing you cannot believe what you are seeing…very innovative …loved it!….Million Dollar Quartet about a true event in which Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins met at the Sun Recording Studios.. the only time it ever happened, and the events of that night, where they all performed together! It was super…and the Jerry Lee Lewis character, played by Levi Kreis, was fabulous…and he won a Tony for his amazing portrayal! La Cage aux Folles was superb! We have seen it before a few times, but this was something totally marvelous….we loved everything about it, and Tony winner Douglas Hodge as Alban was outstanding and hilarious! We didn’t think it could get better, but then we saw Memphis, which won the Tony for Best Musical! It deserves all the accolades it has received and then some! We LOVED it!!!!! On Saturday afternoon, we opted to see Trust, a very off-beat comedy about sado-masochism, starring Sutton Foster, Zach Braff (from Scrubs) and Bobby Cannavale (Will & Grace)…..it was very well-acted….The high light of that show was getting to meet Sutton Foster after the show. I am a HUGE fan of hers, as is Bob….in fact I always say that “In my next life, I want to come back as Sutton Foster.”….and I got the chance to tell her Just That!! (FYI, she won the Tony for Thoroughly Modern Milly…and starred in other musicals, Little Women, The Drowsy Chaperon, Shreck the Musical, all of which we have seen and loved!) She was darling, gracious and charming! I also asked her if she remembered Bruce Moore, who, at one time showed her real estate in NYC…..and she said, “Oh Yes! I do remember him…how is Bruce doing?” It was quite a thrill for me…and I bet Bruce is smiling right now!!! On Saturday evening, we got to see Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch in A Little Night Music….and, as all the reviews have stated…..these two Musical Superstars are stupendous! It was a beautiful production…perfection! The love felt for Bernadette and Elaine filled that theatre! It reverberated on every wall….something quite moving to experience. So….that, in a nutshell are my mini reviews of Show Week with The Frechettes!

Life is like living on a roller coaster…..along with all the glorious wonderful things going on….there creeps in some great sadness, too! When we were in New York, Denis Hyland informed us that Bobby Lundy, who recently competed for Aqua Idol Waterfront Playhouse, passed away last week. It is such sad news. Bobby did a wonderful job week after week, singing his heart out and earning money for The Waterfront. Denis told me, that Bobby had shared that he loved being in the competition…that he was thrilled to be a part of it. And we were all thrilled to have had him participate. He was a dear, talented, gentle man, and he will be deeply missed.
Denis also informed me that long time resident and artist, Carolyn Fuller passed on. Please remember Bobby and Carolyn and their friends and family members in your loving thoughts and prayers.
