AQUA IDOL ON TUES. JAN. 22!!!!….Tonight only 9 singers will be competing for the coveted crown of Aqua Idol for the Waterfront Playhouse! Showtime is 6:30 pm, and our fab contestants will be…..Queen Kathleen, Matt Hulsey, Sophie DeVooght, Ruben Navarro, Daniel Wiggins, Perry Arnold, Heather-Mae Potter, Quincy Perkins, and Ben Teague! They will be singing two songs tonight! Emcee is the always hysterical, Randy Thompson….with Tony Konrath, Lynda Frechette, and guest judge, man-about-town, Billy Cartledge! It should be a great night….LOTS of fun, great entertainment, hilarity, cheap drinks, and all for a wonderful cause…the benefit of The Waterfront Playhouse!!! Your seats are waiting….see you there!!!! By the way, next Tuesday, Jan. 29th, our celebrity judge will be Danny Weathers, artistic director of the Waterfront Playhouse!!!!! You do not want to miss Danny!

NEW FAB RESTAURANT IN TOWN!!!!…We have always loved The Grand Café on Duval St., owned by the super lovely Maria Wevers. Now she has opened another sensational new restaurant called SOLO…..and…if you haven’t tried it, I say Run….Don’t Walk! The ambiance is fabulous….very sophisticated and classy…no longer a sports bar, but a place to go for amazing food!!! Chef Jay has come up with a delectable menu….just reading about the various salads, appetizers, and entrees made me swoon. We opted for the crab cakes, and the Osso Bucco Short Ribs that were memorable. I cannot wait to go back again and again and to sample everything on the menu. There was not a single thing that I would not enjoy!!! SOLO will have a daily happy hour from 4 to 6 pm, where all appetizers and drinks are half price. People will be upset that I am raving about this place, as they want it to be kept a secret so throngs of people don’t take it over making it difficult to get reservations. But good things like SOLO are meant to be shared…..and thankfully, this is quite a large space so there is room for all of us!!!! The restaurant is located on Greene St., just past the Greene Street Art Gallery. They do catering, and their wait staff is delightful. It was special to be greeted by MaryKay Lee, of KW Contemporary Dance Co., and Justin Karpa, our server was first rate! Maria was also there, and she is just glowing with SOLO….Congratulations, Maria, on this super restaurant! Five stars from Bob and Me!!!!

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO ATTENDED…..As a member of The Waterfront Playhouse Board, I personally want to thank everyone who attended our wonderful annual GALA at the lovely home of Jimmy Olson & Keith Dempster. Our board members, particularly, Diane May, Kristen Ryan, Chris Elwell, Jeffery Grosky, Bob Frechette, and so many others gave their hearts and souls to this event….wonderful cuisine by the Iron Chefs….a superb silent auction, music by Dave Bootle dancing…. ANNE O’SHEA WANTS INPUT…..Producer, Anne O’Shea is one of the producers of ‘ANN ON BROADWAY’….a play written by and starring the wonderful actress, HOLLAND TAYLOR (who has a recurring role on 3 ½ Men and was so great on Boston Legal)…..which opens in preview at The Vivien Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center, Feb. 18th….with a March 7th official opening. It is a one-woman show with Holland Taylor playing the former Texas governor ANN RICHARDS, whom we all loved for her wit, charm and personality. Anne O’Shea is interested to find out who from Key West may be interested in being a part of a contingent to fly to NYC sometime during the production…. so this is kind of a touchy feely kind of request. With the help of a wonderful donor & the Florida Hearing Loop Systems, our theater goers who are hearing impaired can come to the theater and hear every word onstage!!!! The entire stage picks up sound & transmits it wirelessly to T-Coil enabled hearing aids as well as cochlear implant users. The system also came with loaner portable receivers and headsets for hearing impaired individuals who do not have aids or T-Coil equipped hearing aids. The quality of the system has been tested and the signal is extraordinary! We welcome ALL theater goers to come to the Waterfront Playhouse and enjoy every single moment…not just visually, but audibly!!!!
