Jim is thankful that he was able to reconnect with his oldest friend, after many years. I am thankful to have spent some time with friend Julie who is dealing with the final stages of breast cancer….thankful that she is accepting and realizing that every hour is a gift and laughter is the best medicine. I am also thankful to have run into an old childhood classmate in Norfolk, VA…someone I hadn’t seen in over 35 years….I thought about just passing her by, but decided to approach her and she was delighted to see me. She was watching eagles with binoculars, and she handed them to me, and we both marveled at the majesty of these great symbols of America and freedom. It was a nice moment, and then we went our separate ways. Soon after this chance meeting, I heard that she had died. I am thankful that I reached out….and if this happens to you, turn around, say hello, and marvel at the wonder of the gifts surrounding us.”
