Hi, is Joan Purcell from the chicago area? In 1970ish I went to a Temple action eith in Iowa or Il. and bought two framed prints of children. Could this be the same artist?
    Thank you

    Dear Joan,

I wonder if you would answer a question for me. I have a signed and numbered lithograph from the 70’s by you that is number 29/100. It is called Grover and Friend. I have always enjoyed it and today decided to check it out on the internet and found one for sale number 46/200. Is it possible that the you did another run of the same print? I always thought that the plates were destroyed after a run is completed.
    Thanks,

    Hi Joan,
Decades ago, I went to camp with a girl named Joanne Purcell. She was my best friend at camp. I know it is not likely that you would be the same person, but thought I would ask just the same. It was Camp Tanglewood, and I think it was in Lincolnville, Maine.

    Thanks.

    Dear Joan,
I have a painting you did for me of a manatee and her calf on a slab of coral rock. You had a little place at the Rainbarrel in Islamorada that we would frequent often………………this was in the 70’s or early 80’s. It hangs in a place of honor as you enter my home.
    Thank you.

I bought a fairly large painting on coral from the Rainbarrel in Islamorada, FL during the 70’s, it now hangs in the entrance to my home in Tamarac, FL. I love it, it is a mother manatee and her calf.
Joan does such beautiful work, especially of my favorite subject…………the manatees.
The painting held a place of prominence in an earlier setting, too, in my home in North Miami. You could see it as you came in the front door hanging over my antique commode.

    Thank you, Joan.

    Sincerely,

    Lois Bell

Joan Purcell Galleries

Joan Purcell is a versatile artist of exceptional talent. Her most recent innovation is painting on ancient coral slabs,re-creating beautiful underwater scenes on the actual substance that once formed the reefs. Joan is a master etcher and lithographer, producing prints of lyrical quality with delicate lines or powerful patterns. Her sense of color is influenced by the Gauguin-gaudy tropical hues of the Florida Keys and the cool subtle tones of the Maine coast.
