Charter Options for 30' Open Fisherman OFFSHORE FISHING FUNYET Charters offers a full array of fishing options for your Keys vacation. You customize your trips aboard the FUNYET, our 30' custom built open fisherman equipped with all of the latest fish finding technology Featuring a Marlin tower supplying plenty of shade, a full eleven foot beam, twin Evinrude - E-TEC V6 outboards, with room for your party of up to six passengers. Offshore fishing in Keys waters start about five miles offshore where the reef ends in about 100 feet of indigo water where the Gulf Stream begins. Typically a combination of ballyhoo and artificial offerings are rigged and trolled between four and eight knots. Outriggers and down riggers help keep the presentation properly spaced. Other offshore techniques involve using a variety of live baits either drifted or slowly trolled behind the boat or occasionally presented from a kite. A wide variety of fish can be caught offshore with these techniques, including: Sailfish, Dolphin (Dorado, Mahi Mahi), Wahoo, King Mackerel, Tuna, Barracuda and Sharks. Bottom fishing as it is called covers a large variety of environments. Some deeper wrecks are in over three hundred feet of water while there are patch reefs that come to within a few feet of the surface. Bottom fishing spots vary in location from several miles outside the reef line on the Atlantic side of the Keys to Gulf side channels and patch reefs. A wide variety of live and dead natural baits are often used to entice fish to strike. For the most part Heavy spinning tackle is needed to move bottom dwelling fish from the safety of their lairs. Some of the species targeted are Groupers, (Black, Gag, Red, Snowy, and Jewfish) Snapper,(Mutton, Mangrove , Yellowtail, Lane) Amberjack, Almaco, African Pompano, Barracuda and Sharks. Included with the trip: Cooler with ice, Bait, Tackle featuring Penn Fishing Reels, State and Federal Fishing Licenses, Pickup service in some Lower Keys locations. Back Country Fishing FUNYET Charters offers back country trips in their 18' 3" ProLine Stalker flats boat the KNOTYET, powered by Evinrude E-TEC V-4 These trips are limited to parties of 2 or less, unless arrangements are made beforehand. Flats’ fishing is done on both the Atlantic and Gulf sides of the Lower Keys as well as on every flat in between. Traditionally flats are polled by a Guide who stands on an elevated polling platform over the engine of the boat. From this vantage point the guide can see fish as they travel and feed on the flat. The guide will then direct your attention to the fish so you can sight cast to the fish. You may choose either Light spin or fly fishing tackle. Live bait is the most effective and is usually Shrimp, small Crabs, and Pinfish. The main species targeted on the Flats are: Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Mutton Snapper, Barracuda and Sharks. FUNYET Charters also offers evening tarpon trips on the thirty foot FUNYET. Fish through sunset in one of the Lower Keys deeper channels, where Large (usually over 100 lbs) tarpon travel from their daytime feeding grounds to the safety of the channels and to feed. These trips are offered spring and summer only.
