Capt. Dexter Simmons releases a 15 pound Permit in the Key West backcountry flats.

Capt. Dexter Simmons releases a 15 pound Permit in the Key West backcountry flats.

Today I was fishing with Peter from the United Kingdom.  We hunted for Permit on the Gulf flats and found many in the 15-25 pound class and a few larger fish.  The water temperatures were in the low to mid 70’s most of the morning to mid-day.  Later in the day the temps soared into the upper 70’s approaching 80, after the wind layed down to calm conditions.  Again, we found Tarpon in the afternoon as the temperatures rose.  We are hoping these temperatures continue to rise in the coming weeks.  It would really help the morning fishing if the evening temperatures stayed in the 70’s overnight.  Currently, it is 73 degrees in Key West, and the weather man has forecast it to stay near 72 overnight.  This trend is exactly what we are looking for!
