Donna Roll, director of Operatic Studies at the Longy School of Music in Boston, is gifting Key West, once again, with some brilliant new vocalists, training in Opera…..the talent is outstanding! Tonight there will be a totally FREE concert presented at 7:30 PM at the United Methodist Church on Eaton and Simonton Sts….The concert will be “Suor Angelica” by Puccini. They will perform this same concert at St. Mary’s Church on Truman Ave. on Wed., June 16 at 7:30 PM. You do NOT want to miss these marvelous concerts…and a BIG thank you to Donna. Note that Donna was the director of MY FAIR LADY in Key West for the POPS this last season. And the sensational Laura Shofner, was a student of Donna’s and she appeared as Eliza in that splendid production! This is the quality of singers that you will have the opportunity to enjoy! And I must add, that two of Key West’s very own singers are a part of stellar troupe….Ralph Garcia Jr. (Son of King Ralph, our current Fantasy Fest King!) and Brad Richards…..both young men were an integral part of the Keys Chorale for many years!

And…I would like to tell you about something very thoughtful that happened this evening! Bob and I went to the KEYS piano bar to enjoy Bobby Nesbitt tonight. One of the “regulars” there, Eric Haley, came up to me and said…”I have something for you.” Knowing that I collected antique Christmas decor and cards, he handed me a beautiful Santa Claus Christmas card from the turn of the century that he found at an antique shop. Now wasn’t that just the most thoughtful of gestures? A surprise gift, out of the blue, for no special occasion at all! Thanks, Eric!!!!
