Although Jim is not able to travel as yet, Billy is coming to check on his property here and to hopefully, spread his special brand of sunshine around the Island.  No doubt he will receive a warm welcome from all his adoring friends!  Also we are so excited that good friends, Kristen and Jim Ryan, who moved to Vegas during the summer, will be visiting!!!  Hoping they will all be at Aqua Idol on Tuesday so we can give them a real royal Key West Welcome Back!!!!!  So, to Billy, Kristen and Jim I say…. “It will be so nice to have you back where you BELONG!”

SHARRON MONDO DREZNER….. On Jan. 29, Sharron Mondo Drezner, was admitted as an emergency patient to Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami, with a threatening rupture of a thoracic aneurysm.  She underwent surgery on Jan. 29, and the procedure was a success.  She is now in the ICU unit as doctors are correcting cardiac rhythm problems.  This was an open heart procedure as the major blood vessel of the heart had to be resected with graft replacement.  Please keep Sharron and her husband Skip in your choicest thoughts and prayers.  Please send her cards and messages to their home at 1901 S. Roosevelt Blvd….#402….Key West, FL 33040.  Her mail will be delivered to her in Miami as long as she is there.  Sharron is a real sweetheart…. A beautiful redhead with lots of pizzazz and energy… I had the great pleasure of meeting her in Bruce Moore’s tap class.  We are praying that she will soon be up and about and dancing again.

If you are already a MEMBER of the Waterfront Playhouse Family, I ask that you consider deepening your commitment financially by becoming a member at a higher level than you had before.  Each level provides special perks and privileges….  BUT, the important thing is to look at it as not so much as ‘what you can get out of your membership’ but what you are giving and doing to provide Key West with the BEST Theater experience possible!  If you have Never been a Member of the Waterfront Playhouse before…. I hope you will realize that we NEED YOUR HELP and support more than ever!…now right NOW!  You can go online to www.waterfrontplayhouse.org or call 305-294-5015 to order your membership….and you can see the Breakdown of what each Level of Membership provides.  You will be helping us beyond words…. **SHORT ATTENTION SPAN THEATRE AT THE RED BARN!!!….We saw this show last week and roared!  It really was hilarious from start to finish!  Congratulation to the  actors… Don Bearden, Vanessa McCaffrey, John Reynolds, Carolyn Cooper, Erin McKenna, and Jeremy Zoma.  Each one was hysterical!!!  Congrats to Directors  Mimi, Gary and Jack McDonald and Amber McDonald Good….Richard Grusin, and Dave Bootle.. all excellent!  AND… to  Playwrights Mike McKeever, Rich Orloff, Shel Silverstein, Carolyn Cooper, Mark Levine, Scott Gibson, Andrew Leeds and Lindsey Kraft.  Thanks to all for a most enjoyable evening at the Red Barn… still laughing just thinking about some of the wild and wacky scenes!!!!  This comedy runs through Feb. 9… get tix at 305-296-9911 or go to www.redbarntheatre.com

‘COLLECTED STORIES’ PRESENTED BY THE FRINGE…. Key West is fast becoming a mecca for great theater…. The Fringe’s “Collected Stories’ starring Lisa Elena Monda and Glenda Donavan and directed by Annie Miners, was just wonderful!  Great acting by these two gifted actresses.  It is about friendship and ultimately of betrayal, and it makes one wonder how much one should ever trust anyone or how much you should ever ‘tell’ anyone.  Congratulations to Annie Miners for doing a stellar job of directing!  This wonderful and thoughtful play closed recently and if you missed it, know you missed a very special evening at the theater!!!!  In many ways it recalled one of my favorite old movies, ‘All About Eve’…where the young naïve ingénue, hero worshipped the older actress and tried to become indispensable to her.  Before long she is taking over the star’s life, stealing her friends, her lovers and her rolls.  No ingénue was she…she was naïve like a fox…. And so was Lisa Elena Monda in this roll.  She actually stole her friend’s material and passed it off as her own.  It was quite something to behold!  Always remember that saying… Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing!  Lots of truth in that.

“I’M GONNA PRAY FOR YOU SO HARD”…. We had heard lots of buzz about this Theatre XP presentation at The Studios and were anxious to see what it was all about.  It really did live up to all we had heard!  Bob Bowersox and Melody Moore, real life husband and wife, play father, David Berryman….and daughter, Ella….  Their performances took us on a real roller coaster of a ride….. Both characters they played are very talented…. But very flawed.  Their relationship is chaotic…. Filled with hurt, bitterness, insults, and regret.  The daughter is looking for love and support… seemingly in awe of her successful father, who is on his way down the success ladder after having peaked years earlier.  She has just performed in her first stage roll and she has joined him at his NYC apartment to wait for the reviews to come in.  What she is craving is support and compliments, but her father is all about himself and he offers her no encouragement…. Just put downs and insults….. and there she sits, listening to the same old stories her father has told ad nauseam all her life trying to feign interest… and then, when she impulsively buts in, actually relating his story in his very words, he goes ballistic and things get scary.  After consuming litres of wine and using drugs together, things get worse… the language and insults go downhill and ‘Ella’ storms out, mad as hell and not wanting to take his verbal abuse any longer.  Cut to the next Act….  Five years later, after having cut all ties with her father, she is a success…. Her demeanor is no longer that of the ‘clinging daughter’ craving her father’s affection and approval…  she, in reality, seems to have ‘become’ her father…. Bitterness and nastiness permeate from every pore in her body.  And then…. Guess who arrives?  Dear Daddy Dearest…. Looking old and decrepit… after having suffered a debilitating stroke.  He has flowers in his hand and wants to make things right with Ella…. But she is having none of it…. She mocks his aged appearance and scorns his apologies … even pushing him down like a wounded animal.  No happy ending here…. Just pain and horror and…and you feel sorrow for these very unhappy persons. Bob and Melody, who are such nice people in real life, did great acting jobs portraying these very depressing people.  They made you feel sorry for them and their misery….and you wanted to thank your lucky stars for the life you have…  you wanted to “ pray really hard” for them that they would someday see the light and learn to forgive and love freely from the heart before it is too late.  Congrats to director Carole MacCartee and to Bob and Melody!

                                 THE AQUARIUS PERSONALITY…JAN. 21 THRU FEB. 20

Aquarians are totally different from every other sign….something sets them apart from everyone else.   The typical Aquarian approaches life from a very different perspective to most people.  Each Aquarian is completely original and innovative.  For a start, they are totally independent.  They follow the beat of a different drum and need to go their own way through life.  Those who try to stop them or hold them back will soon discover how useless this policy is.  If anything, it will make the Aquarian even more determined to do their own thing…and if no one else likes it, tough!  Once an Aquarian has made up their mind about something, you will go blue in the face trying to persuade them to change it….they simply are not interested.    This single-minded determination operates in every area of their life.  However, they are very hard to predict…so even if you think you know how an Aquarian will react to something, they’ll probably take you by complete surprise and do the very opposite.  This is all part of the fun of knowing an Aquarian.  The present is much more of interest to an Aquarian than the past.  They focus on the here and now rather than get caught up in what happened a week last Wednesday.  An Aquarian is light years ahead of others in their thinking.  As a result, they can seem like an iconoclast, possibly even a threat, because they have revolutionary theories or go against the tide of popular ideas.  They are extremely intelligent and very rational…they do not take an emotional approach to life.

This is the friendliest sign of the Zodiac….they need a lot of friends…and to know they are around….though they are really only intimate with a very select group.  When it comes to love, they need to choose a lover who is also a friend.  It is hard for an Aquarian to love someone if they do not like them too.  Their partner must be intelligent and a good conversationalist.  An Aquarian must also need a partner who respects their need for independence.  They hate when someone keeps tabs on them and needs to know their every move.  They do not want to be joined at the hip with anyone.  They need the freedom to come and go as they like.  However, they do not want to give their partner the same freedom that they want for themselves!  The best signs for an Aquarian is Libra or Sagittarius…possibly an Aries and a Gemini too.

In careers an Aquarian does not want to be stuck in a dead end job.  They are attracted to charity and humanitarian work.  Being self-employed appeals to Aquarians, as they thrive on being their own boss.  They do not think anyone knows more than they do.   They do not like taking orders from anyone they feel is inferior to them.  And that’s the name of that tune!

We love our Aquarian Friends and Family Members!!!

Happy Birthday and Anniversary to everyone above mentioned!!!

Love,

Lynda
