TERRI WHITE NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!!… Dear Readers….Our dear friend, Terri White has suffered one setback after another. Soon after moving back to Key West in June, she suffered a serious heart attack and was airlifted to Miami. Then, very recently, she ended up in the ER with dehydration, anemia and renal failure. She was given several blood transfusions and during her ten day stay at the hospital, had countless tests. The results were not good. She has a rare blood disease called Little Chain Deposition Disease and Multiple Myeloma. The treatment of this very serious malady is chemotherapy and it is very costly. Unfortunately, Terri does NOT have insurance. Treatments are $1,500 a week plus $1,000 for prescriptions. She and partner, Donna Barnett, are doing everything possible to acquire financial aid, but to no avail. TERRI IS IN DIRE NEED OF YOUR HELP AT THIS CHALLENGING TIME. Future benefits to raise money are being planned, but until this happens, a GO FUND ME Account has been established to help her. Terri has done much volunteering for others in the community, and now she needs YOUR help. Please go to the Go Fund Me Site to contribute whatever you are able to contribute. Go to https://www.gofundme.com/terri-white-medical-fund?ssid=805222351&pos=1.

We love Terri and her great singing voice and we are very saddened for what she is going through during this Thanksgiving Season. I hope and pray that you will find it in your heart to be kind and generous. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, I ask that you please contact Donna Barnett at donnab410@aol.com. Thank you.

BIRTHDAY/ANNIVERSARY LISTS….If you would like to be included in the Birthday and Anniversary Lists that I send out every month, please let me know your month and day by sending that info to me at kwlynda@bellsouth.net. There are special perks to being on the lists!!!! One of the perks is having your name in KONK Life on the day of your Birthday!

PRAYER CHAIN…..Please continue to remember the following in your thoughts and prayers…Bruce Moore…Terri White …..Kim Romano… Lee Knight… Lynda Scott …Frank and Francine Gren …Maryann Reifschneider…Gail Leadbeter…Sherrey Welch …Marta White ….Walter Lepperd……Howard & Inez Casey…Wally Stevens …..Mary Lou Hoover…Kip Larson …Bill Lodermeir…Lenny Stevens …George Kling …Eric Weinberger … Rennetta Stevens….Richard and Betty Carraway …David Herndon …Lottie Domski …Frank Everhart …Anne McKee … Ron Burns …..Teresa Lawson … Zita DuPel ……. Tony Martinez …Chris Warner .…Brian Martinez and family …. Star Husky….. Ron Maranian …Marec Yooree …Virgil and Nancy Williams . … Pamella C. Bocdow. …Dee Dee Duecker … Karla Muir … Vincent Gregory …Tony Freese… Jennifer O’Lear …Margaret Taylor … Roland Ryper …Patrick Richards. Remember, there are many reasons that we pray…not just because people are ill…. I do believe that when we all send prayers and good vibes to those in need, those prayers mystically meet and surround those being prayed for. Sometimes we pray for miracles and the impossible….sometimes we pray to just cope with the results of what happens to those we are praying for. Sometimes we pray for strength to go on and to accept…sometimes we pray for thanksgiving. We are in this thing called ‘Life’ together….and we all have power within us to help our fellow man. Bless you for remembering our loved ones….Prayer changes things! Let me know if you know of anyone who should be added to this list.

PLEASE READ THIS ABOUT THE SOS FOUNDATION IN KEY WEST…..The SOS Foundation is celebrating 10 years of service to the community by launching a campaign with a goal to reach $10,000. What IS this foundation, you may ask….It is a food recovery program located throughout Monroe County in the form of food pantries and school meal programs. The SOS strives to end hunger and poverty in Monroe County…HOW? By assisting the working poor through food assistance. Believe it or not, there are many people who live here who are trying desperately to make it in this world, and the aid that is given to them via the programs sponsored by SOS, helps tremendously. The people involved with this program are our real live angels on earth. They work diligently and give from the heart and their sole satisfaction is that the people they are serving are not going to bed hungry. At this giving and caring time of year, please support the SOS Foundation. Their mission is to lead the movement and nurture the belief that together we can improve the lives of Monroe County residents by ending hunger. To find out more contact Carmen Garcia at Carmen@sosmission.org. To help with funding please go to this link…. http://www.flipcause.com/secure/cause_pdetails/MTMxMTg=. God bless!

*** THE CAPRICORN PERSONALITY…DEC. 22 TO JAN. 20 ***

Capricorns are terrific company and are known for their wonderful sense of humor. They are also the perfect person to turn to in time of any crisis. Anyone who has enjoyed a good laugh with a Capricorn will want to come back for more. One of a Cap’s greatest strengths is learning from experience. They know how to turn a bad mistake into a valuable lesson. And that is important, as it is a rare Capricorn who goes through life unscathed. Most have their crosses to bear, but they usually grit their teeth and get on with it. This endurance and sticking power stays with them through life. Capricorns do have a tendency to be a tad pessimistic…seeing the glass half empty rather than half full. They often have a feeling that something awful is just waiting to happen, and if their fear comes true, they can become quite depressed. They are often fearful about the future and they need sympathetic listeners so they can unburden themselves. Reputation is very important to Capricorns. They want to be seen in a good light at all times by everyone. They often dress quite formally, as though they would let themselves down if they wear anything too casual. They tend to wear blacks and grays rather than bright colors. Another Capricorn bonus is that they never seem to age. Other signs will age, but the reverse seems to happen to a Capricorn. In fact, they seem to get younger right before your eyes. They mellow, learn to relax, and by the time of old age, they can make teenagers look positively boring!

In love, Caps always want to give a good impression and seem in control. On the surface they may appear to be calm and collected but they aren’t nearly as emotionally unruffled as they seem. Deep down they are extremely shy and vulnerable. Their feelings are easily hurt, and they will distance themselves emotionally from people as a form of protection. Caps are not noted for their demonstrative affections and they are very shy about expressing their feelings. The thought of rejection is appalling to them. Thus they shy away from scenes and close relationships, as they do not want to get hurt. Though Caps can be quite solitary creatures, they benefit from being in a loving relationship. Caps have a very traditional view of long-term relationships, believing that the man is the breadwinner and the woman should stay and take care of the house. Nevertheless, despite all of these issues, they can be hot stuff in the boudoir. The best signs for a Capricorn are Aries, Taurus, Cancer, and Capricorn!!!!

In career the Capricorn shines! They strive to be taken seriously by the world and their job is a way to prove themselves..and they devote lots of time to it. Life is often a struggle for a Cap until at least the 30th birthday….when things become easier and their careers begin to soar. They are quite ambitious and harbor secret plans to go right to the top. They are a valuable member of any work team…they can be relied on as they have a strong sense of duty….they may be chained to the desk long after everyone else has gone home….and they are often Workaholics! Career paths they find appealing are big business, dentistry, medical field, civil service, and government work. Even though it may be lonely at the top, they will manage beautifully.

THE FRECHETTE GAZETTE***DECEMBER, 2016

DECK THE HALLS WITH BOUGHS OF HOLLY!!!! Another year has flown by, and with it countless memories, thankfully, most of them joyful! As soon as we got back to KW in Oct., we barely unpacked the car and we began running to Fantasy Fest Events… parties and getting costumes together….And it was a wonderful FF week indeed. We were elated to have good friend, Broadway Baby, Bruce Moore join us for five days. He performed at the Headdress Ball and brought down the house with his rendition of ‘I Am What I Am.’ It was especially poignant as Bruce was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has been undergoing chemotherapy at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His illness sure hasn’t affected his voice…he was better than ever. At one point, he removed the turban he was wearing as part of his costume, and there he stood…bald head and all… a powerful moment. He got a well-deserved standing O. ….As soon as FF was over it was Thanksgiving and it was lovely sharing the holiday with many close friends who have become our KW Family. And now… time for Christmas! We bought our Tree at the MARC House the day after Thanksgiving, and Bob began bringing the 30+ boxes filled with decorations down from the attic. Because we are going to Ohio for Christmas, we opted to not put up our usual 11 ft. tree this year. We do have an adorable live tree in our Family room. We placed our vintage feather tree on a Victorian table in the Living Room. In years past, it was in the dining room. It is a special and unique tree, decorated with antique ornaments given to me by my late sister-in-law, Nancy. It is a real treasure, as she was. It is that time of the year when I get very nostalgic as I unpack all our decorations and recall where I got them or who gave them to me. When I was a young married woman, I remember my many years of buying goodies from Bernice Schuckert at her magical Studio Shoppe in Ohio. Everywhere I look is something to remind me of her. She is still going strong at nearly 90 and I love hearing from her every year. And then there is my friend, Michael Pelkey, who has a knack for surprising me with Christmas Goodies in beautifully decorated packages …also Patti-Cake Hayes who has started me on a collection of lovely Rothko ornaments…..and dear goddaughter, Sally who always makes our Christmas special ….plus my three B’s…. Bobby, Bruce, and Billy, who really have the spirit! This truly is the season of cherishing and remembering the beauty and blessings in one’s life!

OUR CHILDREN, ROB FRECHETTE & MELISSA LANG This year we got to see our children both in the Chicago area where they live, and also when they visited us at Rose Cottage at Chippewa Lake….great visits all. Weather permitting, we will see them in Ohio for Christmas too! Rob is still enjoying his job at American Weathermaker in Chi-town. He is an avid sports enthusiast and still competes in Musky fishing tournaments. His lovely daughter, Lexy graduated with honors from high school in June and now she is a frosh at Western Kentucky University…doing outstanding school work and she is also on the Equestrian Riding Team at the College…and winning competitions too! We are all quite proud of her accomplishments. Melissa is still working at Northbrook Toyota…I do believe the place would not survive without her….she seems loved by the staff …She enjoys baking and cooking, and is now in a weekly Dart Club….She and husband Jeff have a menagerie at their home…last count, 4 dogs and 2 cats. Melissa’s son, Jonathan is still living in Georgia and is working for Uber and part time at a local restaurant. We were elated that Melissa was able to visit with us in Key West for the Songwriter’s Festival for the third year. It is a great time, and we look forward to her visit with us in KW every year.

THE CURSE IS OVER!!!! You can take the man out of Cleveland, but you can’t take Cleveland out of the man! That sure pertains to the Cleveland Sports Teams. For years Cleveland suffered with losing teams…one after the other. But NOT this year! I am proud to say that the monkey is off our back. The Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James brought the NBA Championship to us! It was a huge thrill for the Fans and for the City. We also came SO very close to winning the World Series, but were defeated by another long-suffering team, the Chicago Cubs, in the 7th game of the playoffs. Now…if only the Cleveland Browns could find a way to win at least one game!!!!

TRAVELS ALONG THE WAY!!! Of course we travel to and from our two favorite places in all the world, Key West, FL and Chippewa Lake, Ohio. Generally, we are in KW from mid October until mid June…and then we head north for dear memory-filled Rose Cottage. Each one of these towns has divine sunsets, great character, and wonderful characters whom we adore! I enjoy traveling. But being a true Cancer (July 20), I love returning to hearth and home, surrounded by the things I love. We did go to Chicago in August, not only to see our children, but to attend the Barbara Streisand National Concert Tour. We always hoped to see Frank Sinatra in concert and never did, so when Babs came around we got tix right away. And it was sensational to say the least….a memory to treasure forever. We also did our late August 22 anniversary trip to NYC…stayed at the Iroquois Hotel, and saw 5 great shows…Waitress…On Your Feet…The Humans… Act of God…and The Color Purple. It was also super connecting with New York friends, Paul Smith, George Sanders, Shawn Curran and Gayla Morgan. We love New York!!!!

WE ARE SO VERY HONORED!!! On March 10th, Bob and I were honored by the Samuel’s House at their Annual Women of Integrity and Men of Valor Awards Dinner at the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Beachside Hotel. We were humbled to be acknowledged for our contribution to the Arts in Key West. It was meaningful to have so many of our dear Key West friends there to support us. On a much sillier note….I received another award this year….I won the Costume Contest at the La Cage Aux Folles party at The Studios!!!! Great fun!!!!

LIKE SAND THROUGH AN HOUR GLASS, THESE ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES…. We are still deeply involved in the Arts in KW….proud to be on the board of the esteemed Waterfront Playhouse. I am once again coordinating Aqua Idol, a benefit for the Playhouse. It is our version of American Idol. I assemble a great group of vocalists to compete for 11 weeks, and they sing their hearts out to raise money for our theater. I also do a weekly blog that is sent to over 1,500 people….Additionally, it is on the website, www.conchtv.com. It informs everyone about what is going on in town every single day. Check it out. In KW we have way too much fun… we are out and about just about every night.. Also, I am still playing tennis both in KW and Ohio…Bob prefers golf. I also enjoy reading, gardening, antique collecting (I know, I should be getting rid of stuff!), going to movies, dining out, and a good glass of wine too! There are still not enough hours in the day to do all the things we want to do. One thing that makes me elated is that there is no one I would rather be doing these fun things with than my husband, Bob!!!! How did I get so lucky?

OH WHEN THE SAINTS GO MARCHING IN!! Do any of you remember the large wooden statues of Sts. Frances and Anthony who held court for years in the By George Bar at Lateda? Anyway…when Christopher Rounds bought Lateda and remodeled the Lounge, there no longer was a place for them there. I asked about them and happily, we were able to acquire them from Christopher. That was the good news. The bad news was that they were in much disrepair. But no longer! We commissioned dear friend, and artist, Perry Arnold, to repair them….and he did an amazing restoration job, bringing them back to their former glory. As we speak, they are on either side of our front door….wreathes surround their necks and they are now ‘holding court’ at our home on Caroline St. No doubt, our friend, the late former owner of Lateda, Mark Barck, is smiling from heaven knowing that Frank and Tony, as I affectionately call them, have found a loving home with us.

DENNIS STEVENS With all the joy happening at this time of the year, there is also great sadness. One especially sad note was losing my beloved cousin Dennis Stevens. He and his family were here in the Keys for a week around Easter….had a marvelous visit with them….The day before leaving he complained of numbness on the side of his head. When they arrived back in Ohio the next morning, they went directly to the ER. He had a rare bleed on his brain. They operated, and thought he would be alright. We were ecstatic. That lasted very briefly, as hours later he contacted another bleed and he died instantly. Folks….we are all still in mourning for his loss. Who would believe that one week we were laughing and celebrating together in Key West and the next we are flying to Cleveland for his funeral. There are no answers. I find comfort in the zillions of great memories we have of Dennis, a truly wonderful man…as dear as dear can be, with a heart as big as the sea…. and that his last memories were of how happy he was to take his family to the Keys for this amazing vacation.

IN MEMORIAM Our hearts ache with the loss of so many other very precious persons in our lives. I ask that you join me in remembering….KATHY MELENDY…ED KNIGHT…BUD GRUBER…KATHY CAWLEY…TOM OOSTERHOUDT … EDITH AMSTERDAM… ED BLOCK… GREGG McGRADY…CONNIE GILBERT…PAUL HILSON …TED WATSON …GEORGE MAURER…JEFFREY WIEBELT… ALAN FERGUSON …LEE DODEZ… JUDY WOOD …TOM NEWTON … JACK MCADAMS …VIRGINIA GROETZ…MARION DE PIERO…MANNY MADRUGA …PAVEL KETCHUM… GERRIE KRIEGER …WANDA McNEIL…SOPHIE LUCZAK…TEGAN SLATON …DOTTIE SCHWARTZ…GENE NOWAKOWSKI … KYLE DEMPSTER…MAGGIE GUTIERREZ…SOPHIE FLOWERS…STEVE CALDERWOOD…. DENNIS STEVENS.

CHRISTMAS IN OHIO We are looking forward to being with the family for 8 days. We will fly to Cleveland…drive to Rose Cottage and open it up….probably build a fire in the fireplace….do a bit of decorating and get in the spirit of the season up North. Christmas Eve will be spent at my brother Ed and his wife Amy’s home in Westlake, O. There should be about 20 of us there to celebrate….dine…and exchange gifts….reminisce and just love one another. Looking forward to seeing all the nieces and nephews and their kids and of course, our children, Rob and Melissa. I am hoping to hear from you during the holidays….if you want to send us a card, please send to us at 330 Caroline St., Key West, FL 33040. We LOVE Christmas mail. If you do not have our email addresses, please note that mine is kwlynda@bellsouth.net and Bob’s is rfrechette@bellsouth.net.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!!! This Christmas, I ask that you hang on to your loved ones….be kind and forgiving….reach out….If you care about someone, let them know. I ask that you take time to remember those who are shut in or going though challenging times in their lives. Be patient…listen…be thoughtful…If someone apologizes to you, accept their apology and move on. Don’t judge….I ask for prayers for good friends, Bruce Moore, Terri White, Maryann Reifschneider, Gail Leadbeter, George Kling, Eric Weinberger, and Brian Martinez who are dealing with serious health issues.

This has been a rough year politically. It seems like the presidential campaign went on way too long. However you voted you must agree that the country is in turmoil. We are a great but a divided nation right now. Join me in praying that our leadership does a good job of keeping our country safe . The United States has always been the greatest nation in the world and the envy of all. Let it continue to be so. Keep in mind that we ARE One Human Family and that Love and not Hate is the answer. There are a lot of challenges ahead, but I believe in the strength and unity of the American people and our ability to move forward and be strong…no matter what obstacle might be in the way! Amen and Hallelujah!

In the meantime, have a wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza or whatever you may be celebrating… may you find good friends or family to enjoy the holidays with. Be careful…safe….party sensibly…. And may we all have a spectacular New Year! CHEERS FOR 2017!!!!!

Much Love and joy always!!!!
Lynda and Bob Frechette
